2019 in Books, Vol. I

High among my list of New Year’s Resolutions for 2019 was to get back in touch with my love of reading. Books were my first window to the world, and as a child I spent endless summer days and rainy afternoons devouring paperbacks by the hundreds. Since graduating from college, though, I’d be hard pressed to name ten books I’ve actually finished. And so, to inspire myself to get back in the habit, I made a list of about 100 books I wanted to read this year. Some are favorites I’ve read before and love, others I encountered in high school or college and for one reason or another want to revisit, and the rest are ones I haven’t read but want to. As of today, my progress has been surprisingly good. I have read (or listened to on audiobook) the following 19 books so far–most of which I liked, some of which I didn’t, several of which I loved, and a couple of which I loathed–representing a pretty even blend of the categories I described above (skewing towards the first though, I will admit, since I’d been longing to reread some of these for a while):
