Love Is Dead, Cinema Is NOT

Pleased to report, having just caught a screening at NYFF, that Noah Baumbach’s latest, Marriage Story, is an absolute knock-out, powerhouse, gut-punch of a film, and very certainly one of the best movies of the year, if not the decade.

Baumbach is an interesting, inconsistent filmmaker in my opinion. I hated his early work but loved the Gerwig years, and liked (but didn’t love) The Meyerowitz Stories. But he’s achieved something truly remarkable with this one, the perfect *marriage* of storytelling, emotion, performance and craft. A complete triumph that will knock the very breath from your lungs.

This is CINEMA, folks. Damn. I can’t wait for more people to see it.

Oscars all around.
